Rockefeller Center, the “city within a city”, truly represents America’s tenacity and perseverance. Privately funded by Dr. Rockefeller Jr. in the 1930s, the Rockefeller Center, then known as the Radio City, was built amidst the Great Depression that brought the world’s economy to a standstill. This show of prosperity and growth during this economic crisis provided Americans a bastion of hope for them to tide through these dark times. Rockefeller Center harbors 14 buildings in total, and these buildings have had their fair share of media attention. For example, the RCA building, the tallest of these 14 buildings, is attributed to being the site for the famous photograph, “Lunchtime atop a Skyscraper.”

Perhaps one of the most well-known buildings in Rockefeller Center is the Radio City Music Hall. Here, a 70+-year tradition brings about some festive cheer during each holiday season: the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Its popularity can be measured by the amount of tourists that visit Radio City Music Hall: a whopping 300 million visitors! Rockefeller Center’s 14 buildings are all interconnected via an ominously-named underground concourse: the Catacombs. Here, travellers and tourists alike are treated to a multitude of different stores in the Catacombs – from eating establishments all the way to post offices!
